    In December 2018, the Tor network had 961 bridges. In 2019, it had 1,268 bridges. Last year, 1,571. Today? 1,973! We're seeing that the number of Russians connecting to Tor is staying relatively steady. This is a result of the community effort!

    Dec 9 UPDATE: Since the Russian government has taken another step against internet freedom by blocking the Tor Project's website and, in some cases, blocking the network, internet freedom supporters have fought back by spinning up 200+ bridges. 💪 🌉

    It's still critical that everyone raises their voice about this censorship--and call on Roskomnadzor and the Russian government to reverse this decision.

    Roskomnadzor should immediately reverse this dangerous and self-defeating decision. Just as when they tried (and failed) to block Telegram, efforts to block won't stop criminals, but it will absolutely hurt ordinary people who depend on it for privacy. This is wrong.

    Some Russian ISPs blocked public Tor relays and built-in bridges by IP address, enumerated "moat" obfs4 bridges and blocked them by IP address, and used DPI to recognize and block Snowflake connections. Other obfs4 bridges continued to work throughout.
