    I propose we call this sort of thing, in lieu of a black swan, event a “pink flamingo” event. It’s big, it’s hideous, it’s been on the lawn the entire time, the neighbors hate it, everyone wants it gone, and it’s weird to act surprised when it falls over. The pink flamingo.

    Terra suffered an unexpected vicious speculative attack by a rogue player who tried to cash out for real money. This event could never have been foreseen and it’s really a black swan event when you think about it. The algorithm was sound, it’s not the founders’ fault.

    Thatcher's statue in Grantham is meant to play much the same role as Jacob Rees-Mogg. A lightning rod for anger. We will be made to pay for any petty damage to the statue; more permanent solutions are now punishable under stiffer laws for attacking symbols of power.
